A Rainy Weather Pattern Shouldn’t Mean the End of a Soil Surfactant Program

Cloudy Morning on the Golf Course
With all of the rain Texas has received in recent weeks, superintendents may be tempted to delay or forgo their soil surfactant program. That would be a mistake. Now that we’re entering a drier pattern, it is natural to let things dry out. Ironically, it is this same drying out that will bring about hot spots on greens. Fairways and tees may also begin to show stress even though the soil is still wet. Why is that?

Without a soil surfactant, water repellency will rear its ugly head, even when it seems impossible for soils to be “dry.”

It is important to remember that water repellency is a natural byproduct of growing turf and wet/dry cycles. Though its effects are often exacerbated by drought conditions, dry weather is not the root cause of water repellency. Without a soil surfactant, water repellency will rear its ugly head, even when it seems impossible for soils to be “dry.” Since the top of a soil gets dry first, it is also the place where stress will occur quickly – even though it is still wet underneath.

Remaining on a regular surfactant program in a rainy season will help to ensure that soils wet and dry down uniformly, preventing the development of water repellency. In addition, a proven surfactant will allow additional rainfall to penetrate the soil surface quickly and promote uniform drainage, getting courses back to playable conditions as soon as possible.

Revolution Optimizes Soil Moisture, Rain or Shine

revolution

More than a decade’s worth of independent and university research shows that Revolution optimizes soil moisture under a variety of weather conditions. Whether too much or too little water is applied, Revolution’s unique, patented chemical structure balances air and moisture in the rootzone. The result is a healthier growing environment and firmer, highly consistent putting surfaces, rain or shine.

Aqueduct Fixes Hot Spots Quickly

If you are seeing hot spots appear, it may be time for Aqueduct. Aqueduct is a curative surfactant formulation designed specifically to provide rapid recovery from localized dry spots. It moves water deeply into problem areas, reducing water repellency and restoring the rootzone’s ability to regain optimum moisture levels. Aqueduct quickly reduces turf wilt and promotes speedy recovery of stressed turf.

Dispatch for Superior Penetrating Performance

Dispatch

Dispatch’s patented technology greatly increases water penetration, moving water off the surface and into the rootzone quickly and more uniformly. Dispatch significantly reduces runoff on sloped areas – low areas aren’t wet and high areas aren’t dry. Available in both injectable and sprayable formulations, Dispatch can easily be injected into irrigation lines or tank mixed with any spray application.
