AQUATROLS Receives First Synergy Technology Patent in New Zealand
Aquatrols Corporation of America (ACA), the world leader in soil surfactant technology, recently received a significant patent from the New Zealand government for a synergy technology used in two of its most popular products. Dr. Stanley Kostka, who is named as the inventor on the patent, explained that this newly protected technology “provides a systemic method for reducing the negative effects of heat stress, radiation, and drought on diverse crop plants, including fruit and certain vegetable crops.”
The invention covered in this patent relates to the discovery that, when blends of alkylpolyglycoside and certain block copolymers are applied to the rootzone, sunburn on fruit and other harmful effects of sunlight and heat stress are reduced. In New Zealand these blends are the active ingredients in Aquatrols’ Dispatch and IrrigAid Gold products.
According to Dr. Kostka, the use of this technology offers small and large-scale growers an easy, long-lasting, and relatively inexpensive method for mitigating fruit environmental damage, particularly defects caused by sunburn and heat stress. Research has also demonstrated that the products enhance plant growth while increasing fruit yield, density, color, and quality.
Because this technology induces a systemic response to the types of abiotic stress common in drought-affected regions, there is hope that it may help combat mounting water scarcity issues worldwide. “This technology has the potential to turn the tide on water scarcity by decreasing demand for water while increasing crop productivity throughout agriculture, horticulture, and viticulture,” stated Aquatrols President Tracy Jarman.
This is the first patent in what ACA anticipates to be sweeping global protection for this synergy technology in the near future.
